What polyaspartic actually is
Polyaspartic is a sub-type of polyurea - a two-part resin (a catalyst plus a resin) that cures by chemical reaction rather than by drying. Manufacturers like Sherwin-Williams developed it for industrial floors that could not afford days of downtime. The key trait is a controllable, fast cure: tack-free in 2 to 4 hours, full cure in 24 to 48. It is almost always used as the clear UV-stable topcoat in a layered system, not on its own.

Cons we will not hide: higher up-front cost than basic epoxy or a DIY kit; a strong solvent odor during install (it clears fast because of the quick cure, but it is real - reputable sources like Swisstrax note the VOCs); and it is genuinely not a DIY material - the fast cure that makes it great also means amateurs run out of working time. It needs a trained crew.
Cost and lifespan
Professionally installed polyaspartic systems run about $5 to $12 per square foot. We price ours flat at $8/sq ft, all-inclusive:
