Why bare concrete patios fail in southeastern Wisconsin

Is a coated patio slippery when wet?
Less slippery than the surfaces it usually replaces. The flake broadcast is not just decorative - the flakes land at every angle and leave a lightly textured finish, closer in feel to a broom-finished slab than to smooth sealed concrete or glossy paint. For pool surrounds, steps, and shaded areas that stay damp, we can broadcast a fine grip aggregate into the topcoat for more bite, and a matte topcoat is available if you prefer less sheen.

Is a coated patio slippery when wet?

How does the coating handle freeze-thaw cycles and deicer salt?
This is the main reason we use polyaspartic outdoors. The coating seals the slab so water and salt brine cannot soak in, freeze, and spall the surface, and the topcoat itself is unaffected by deicer salt. The flexible polyurea base tolerates the slab movement that comes with temperature swings.
Can you coat a stamped or painted concrete patio?
Usually yes. Paint and old sealers are ground off completely so the new coating bonds to bare concrete - a coating over failing paint fails with the paint. Stamped concrete can be coated, but grinding removes some of the stamped texture, so we walk through what the finished surface will look like before you commit.
My patio is cracked and pitted. Can it still be coated?
In most cases, yes. We diamond-grind the slab, then fill cracks, pits, and spalled areas as part of the standard prep - it is included in the flat rate. If the crack pattern tells us the slab is actively settling or heaving, we will say so honestly before any product goes down.
How long does a patio coating last outdoors?
